A temporary J-1 cultural exchange with sponsor-approved seasonal work and a permitted travel period.

THE SUMMER CAN PAY FOR ITSELF. For many participants, it does. Legal work helps recover the investment; strong hours, tips, approved overtime or a sponsor-approved second job can create extra savings too. Your result depends on confirmed wage, actual hours, taxes, housing and personal spending. This is a realistic planning outcome, not an income guarantee.

CHAPTER 01
START HERE

NOT A TRIP.
NOT JUST A JOB.

Summer Work & Travel is a temporary J-1 cultural exchange: sponsor-approved seasonal work, everyday responsibility and a permitted travel period.
START HERE · SWT IN 60 SECONDS

THE WHOLE PROGRAM, FAST.

Six things that are true for everyone. Read these and you understand SWT.

01
Cultural exchange
You live everyday American life through work and communication — not as a tourist.
02
Seasonal work
Sponsor-approved positions in a busy summer season.
03
Official U.S. sponsor
Manages your DS-2019, SEVIS record and required approvals.
04
Real responsibility
Your schedule, expenses, housing rules and compliance are yours.

Know the details

05 — Travel period. Travel is possible only within the dates and conditions your program and immigration rules permit.

06 — Temporary program. SWT is a temporary cultural exchange — not permanent employment or an immigration pathway.

Who handles what: EARN&GO USA prepares and guides you locally. The official U.S. J-1 sponsor holds program authority (DS-2019, SEVIS, approvals). The employer runs the workplace. The U.S. Embassy makes the final visa decision.

ELIGIBILITY · CHECK YOURSELF FIRST

CAN YOU
APPLY?

Four conditions. If all four are true of you, you can begin an application.

01
Active full-time student
Currently enrolled and actively studying — and returning to your studies after the summer.
02
Age 18–28
You must be within this age range for the season you apply to.
03
Recognised university
Enrolled at an accredited higher-education institution.
04
English at A2 or above
A2 (CEFR) is the minimum for Summer Work & Travel — enough English to work, live, ask questions and solve everyday problems on your own. Your level is confirmed by our placement test.
The full eligibility check is part of the official application. Meeting these four conditions means you can apply — it does not by itself confirm acceptance, a placement or a visa.

THE SUMMER HAPPENS OUTSIDE THE POSTCARD
EVERY PARTICIPANT · EVERY DESTINATION
You never fly without an address.
Most employers provide housing with the position. Where an employer does not, EARN&GO USA and your sponsor find and secure your accommodation together — before you leave, not after you land. No participant of ours departs with housing unresolved.
Cost, standard and location differ by destination and employer, and rent is your own expense — but the address is confirmed in writing before your flight.
Package 03 · Premium is not shown among these five — those destinations are matched individually, so ask us. These five are featured examples, not the full list. Across our sponsor partners there are 200+ locations and 1000+ positions in 15+ states each season — beach towns, mountain resorts, waterparks, amusement parks, lakes and national parks. Tell us the kind of summer you want and we will show you what is actually open for 2027. No placement, admission, excursion or partnership with any named attraction is implied.
Find your fit — five questions

Ask yourself: Can I manage the confirmed housing cost? How will I reach every scheduled shift? Big social scene or a smaller community? Comfortable living far from a major city? Will this still fit after week one's excitement fades?

Other seasonal destinations may be available depending on sponsor and employer options for the season.

POPULAR ≠ RIGHT FOR YOU
These are destination examples, not guaranteed placements. Exact jobs, wages, housing and transport depend on the confirmed program, sponsor and employer — and not every destination is available every season.

Social Security Number: we take you through the whole application — the office, the appointment, the documents and what happens on the day. The Social Security Administration issues the number itself, and timing cannot be guaranteed.

U.S. bank account: we tell you which bank to use and walk you through opening the account step by step, including the documents you'll need. Approval is the bank's own decision.

Local orientation: finding groceries, pharmacy, transport options and your route to work.

INCLUDED FOR EVERY PARTICIPANT
Your SSN appointment and your bank account — done with you, not explained at you.
EARN&GO USA takes every participant through the Social Security appointment and the bank account: which office, which appointment, which documents to bring, which bank to use and exactly how the account is opened. You do not have to work out any of it alone in a foreign system.
The Social Security Administration issues the number and the bank approves the account — neither decision is ours, and neither has a guaranteed timeline. Everything up to those two decisions, we do with you.
YOUR TRANSFER RUNS ON THE FLIGHT DETAILS WE HOLD
Your airport-to-accommodation transfer is included — but it is booked against the flight information you send us. THE RETURN ON YOUR SUMMER

THE SUMMER CAN PAY FOR ITSELF — AND FOR MANY PARTICIPANTS, IT DOES.

You invest before departure, then earn throughout the season. With the confirmed wage and hours in their offer, many students recover the program cost and essential summer expenses. Good hours, tips, approved overtime or a sponsor-approved second job can mean returning home with additional savings too.

This is a realistic planning outcome, not an income guarantee. Your result depends on your confirmed wage, actual hours, taxes, housing, personal spending and any additional work approved by your designated U.S. sponsor. Test your own numbers in the calculator below.

If your visa is denied, Instalment 4 is not charged. Of everything already paid, a total of USD 500 is non-refundable — or the amount your Sponsor organization retains in case of visa denial, where that amount is higher (the per-sponsor figures are listed in the Schedule to Annex B, which you sign before Instalment 1) — retained by EARN&GO USA to cover the sponsor’s own non-refundable retention and the administrative work already done. Everything else is refunded, provided the sponsor is notified of the refusal within 48 hours of your interview. Government fees already paid to the U.S. authorities (SEVIS, DS-160, Visa Integrity Fee) are never refundable by us or by the sponsor. Full conditions are in Annex B of your signed agreement.
STUDENT FINANCING · IN DEVELOPMENT

YOUR BUDGET SHOULD NOT END THE CONVERSATION.

EARN&GO USA is developing a dedicated SWT financing pathway with Komercijalna Banka, designed around a verified program file and your documented U.S. work plan.

UP TO €6,000proposed working limit
UP TO 18 MONTHSproposed repayment period
PAYCHECK GRACEproposed until first or second U.S. salary
UP TO 48 HOURSproposed decision target after a complete file

This financing pathway is currently a non-binding proposal, not a live guaranteed credit offer. Launch, availability, amount, grace period, approval, security, interest and every final term are determined solely by Komercijalna Banka after its credit assessment. EARN&GO does not approve or guarantee credit.

Across 12 weeks (estimate)$0

This is a planning estimate, not an income promise. The 12% tax withholding is an editable planning assumption, not tax advice — actual withholding and final tax obligations vary. Actual hours, earnings, deductions and costs vary by employer, destination, season and personal choices. One-time costs (airfare, program fees, SEVIS, deposits) are not included here. All calculations run locally in your browser — nothing is sent or stored anywhere.

ESTIMATED REMAINDER= ?

So what is actually left at the end of a season?

Below is what this calculator produces on the indicative figures for each destination — after housing, food, transport, phone and personal spending, across the full season. These are not earnings we promise you. They are arithmetic you can redo yourself, above, with your own confirmed offer.

DestinationBase wage onlyWith tips, overtime or an approved second job
Amusement & Resorts15 weeks · lowest costs~$4,100~$6,000
Wisconsin Dells13 weeks · cheap housing, weak tips~$3,000~$4,600
Myrtle Beach18 weeks · longest season~$2,900~$5,600
Ocean City14 weeks · strong tips~$2,500~$5,800
Florida14 weeks · highest housing~$1,800~$4,100
Read the left column first. It is a non-tipped position at the local rate, 38 hours a week, no overtime and no second job — and it is a completely normal season. The right column requires something extra: a tipped role, approved overtime, or a second job your sponsor has approved. Those are real, and they are also the difference between the two columns.

Neither figure includes your flight, program fee, SEVIS fee, insurance or housing deposit. Tips, overtime and additional work are never guaranteed.

Plan across three honest scenarios — never assume the best one.

A — CAUTIOUS
Fewer confirmed hours or higher living costs. Plan as if this is your season.
B — EXPECTED
A reasonable estimate built on your confirmed offer and known costs.
C — STRONGER SEASON
More approved hours or controlled expenses. A bonus, never a guarantee.

Estimate only — hours, earnings, deductions and costs vary by employer, destination and program. A full interactive calculator lives in the complete handbook.

SUPPORT IN AMERICA · SECOND JOBS

A SECOND JOB —
SORTED BEFORE YOU FLY.

Most participants want a second job. The question is not whether you can have one — it is whether it is approved before you start, or improvised after you land.

HOW WE DO IT
We start your second job from Skopje, not from your kitchen in America.
Where you want additional work, we identify suitable positions and submit them to your sponsor for approval before departure. You arrive knowing what has been approved, who your second employer is and when you can start — instead of spending your first weeks searching, waiting on a decision, or taking something unauthorised because the rent is due.
Approval is the sponsor's decision, not ours, and additional work is never guaranteed. What we can do is start the process early enough that you have an answer before you get on the plane.
UNAUTHORISED WORK CAN END YOUR PROGRAM
Any additional job must be approved by the authorized U.S. sponsor before your first shift. A manager saying yes is not approval. Working without it puts your SEVIS record, your program and any future U.S. visa at risk — which is exactly why we arrange it in advance instead of leaving you to sort it out there.

Our thirteen hours are built around your night, not our office. Finish a late shift at midnight with a problem, and Skopje is already awake.
